Dundee’s Social Entrepreneurs receive thousands in funding from UnLtd after a successful pitch event.

Four local social entrepreneurs have been awarded a total of £16,000 in funding for the development of their socially impactful ventures. The four individuals were amongst a number of entrepreneurs who pitched their ventures to a panel at the Resilient Communities Do It Award pitch event last December. Jill Duke, Sharon Wilson-Hodgson, Marco Notrangelo, and Naomi MacIntosh each received up to £5,000 to go towards start-up costs alongside a tailored package of ongoing support and 1-1 coaching from UnLtd.

What is an entrepreneurial mindset?

Entrepreneurial Mindset: a way of thinking that enables decisiveness and the ability to overcome challenges, and accept responsibility for outcomes.

It is also characterised by a constant need to improve skills, learn from mistakes, and see ideas through to fruition.

An entrepreneurial mindset can be interpreted as a refusal to fear the possibility of failing. Instead, failure is seen as a success; providing a valuable learning opportunity, prompting new approaches and acting as in indicator that the idea or approach is not viable.

Understanding funding for social entrepreneurs

For any business the ultimate goal is to become financially self-sustaining, and one way to achieve this is through investment and fundraising. At The Circle we adopt a ‘More Than Profit’ approach and encourage others to do so as well. Having a ‘More than Profit’ approach means that companies with a social impact should aim to be self-sustaining from doing what they do (e.g. the sales of its products and/or services) and should not be reliant on a single income stream.
