Join Donald McPherson for this comprehensive workshop on governance on Wednesday 26th June from 9.30am – 12.30pm. This 3 hour workshop is essential to board members and trustees of third sector organisations. This workshop will cover:
- The relevance of corporate governance to charities: Explaining why good governance is important to charities and the responsibility of trustees for ensuring this.
- Principles of good governance: Setting out how each of the following principles contribute to a strong governance framework – Organisational purpose, Leadership, Integrity, Decision-making, risk & control, Board effectiveness, Diversity, and Openness & accountability.
- A practical action plan: outlining the steps charities can take to strengthen their governance and how to communicate this to their stakeholders.
- Corporate governance codes which have been designed with charities in mind, including the Scottish Governance Code for Third Sector, and how to apply them
The workshop will be delivered by Donald McPherson, Chair of The Circle Board and former Company Secretary for the Alliance Trust PLC. Donald worked in legal and governance roles in listed companies for 30 years, including his role at Alliance Trust PLC, where he was responsible for setting up and chairing the Alliance Trust Foundation.
