Our new Digital Learning Producer, Alice

Last week I joined the team here at The Circle as Digital Learning Producer on an internship through The Rank Foundation’s Time to Shine programme. My role will be to assist Kara, the Academy Manager, in delivering The Circle Academy, alongside producing a digital platform for future cohorts of the Academy to use as an additional resource.

I arrived in Dundee in August last year, and with an existing interest in social enterprise, I was keen to dive into the More Than Profit scene here in Dundee. I was delighted to discover the quantity and rich variety of socially and environmentally focused businesses and organisations creating change in the city. I’ve been lucky enough to spend time volunteering at Dundee’s first zero waste shop as well as meeting several inspiring leaders and social entrepreneurs.

Before making the move to Dundee, I’d worked freelance in digital marketing whilst my pursuing my interest in social enterprise. My venture into the field started with an environmental leadership programme with Uprising. Then going on to take part in Drivers For Change, a tour of UK-based social enterprises focused on place-based change, and finally having the opportunity to attend the Social Enterprise World Forum in 2018.

I’ve always felt a drive to ensure that my ethical and environmental values and driving social change are upheld in everything I do; from volunteering, to choosing the businesses and organisations I work with and for. I’d been following the work of The Circle prior to the serendipitous moment when I came across the opportunity to help deliver The Circle Academy as part of an internship with The Rank Foundation. I knew immediately that this was an ideal next step in my career path.

The Circle, and The Rank Foundation, have presented me with an incredible opportunity; the opportunity to assist in empowering current and future more than profit leaders whilst gaining a year of insightful industry experience and training in an established and driven more than profit business.

There’s a drive here, not just to do good, but to do good business, be impactful and to achieve more. And with a lot of big plans for 2020, I can’t wait to get stuck in.
