Resilient Communities Dundee Awards Events 2018/19

The Circle is excited to host a series of exciting and engaging events as part of our Resilient Communities Programme with partners UnLtd and other facilitators.

This programme includes a variety of free events over the 3rd and 4th of September where attendees can gain insight from successful entrepreneurs, learn how to pitch their ideas, find out more about growth mindset and watch social entrepreneurs make their pitch for a share of £20k funding from Resilient Communities.

Monday 3rd September 2018

0800 – 1000:  The Breakfast Sessions: Founder’s Stories: We will be meeting some amazing entrepreneurs who have set up business, charity or social enterprise.

Come along and hear why they set up,  why giving something back is important, lessons learnt and tops tips for anyone starting up!

1030 – 1200:  Pitch Perfect – tips and tricks to improve pitching and short presentationsMairi Damer of WORD UP Communications leads this practical workshop to develop promotion and persuasion skills. Participants will learn how to pitch ideas or make a bid for funding with confidence, energy and personality. 1000 – 1200:  Introduction to Growth Mindset:  Based on the research of Carol Dwek, this workshop will introduce the idea that those with a growth mindset believe ability can be developed and that failure is a learning opportunity. They persist and put in effort, finding alternatives of achieving success.  Facilitated by Jamie McBrearty, Growth Mindset Manger at Leisure and Culture Dundee.

1200:  Lunch

1230 – 1400:  UnLtd Scotland Resilient Communities Start-Up Awards: Pitching PanelEach applicant will have a 10-minute slot:  five minutes to pitch their idea followed by three – four minutes of questions from our panel:

1230:              Pitch 1

1240:              Pitch 2

1250:              Pitch 3

1300:              Pitch 4

1320 – 1340:  Panel discussion and decision-making

1340- 1400:   Panel recommendations announced.  *Please note that the panel make recommendations to UnLtd’s Awards Committee.  The Awards Committee will meet on Monday 24th September and applicants will receive notification of the final decision on their Award shortly after this date. 

1400 – 1630 Meet the Funder:  Big Lottery Scotland https://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/about-big/countries/about-scotland

1400 – 1430:  Introduction to The Big Lottery Scotland and their funding programmes

1430 – 1440:   Q&A:  A member of the team from Big Lottery Scotland will answer your questions.
